Simon the Cat's Updated Healing Fund (OCARC)

Organized by Orange County Animal Rescue Coalition

Update on Simon!
Simon is continuing to improve! His leg is healed and the infection is gone!! The doctors at Arbor Animal Hospital want to wait another two weeks to remove the pins and rods. Simon is a very high energy kitty, and they want to be certain his bones are fused together properly. After the pins/rods are removed, Simon will need time to build up the muscles in his leg for an additional two weeks before he will be available for adoption. We are still raising money for his very expensive treatment. Can you help?
New Photo of Simon!

Simon is doing well! He has one metal rod inside his leg, and another on the outside (wrapped in the yellow/green bandage) held together with pins. He is such a trooper! His would must be cleaned on a daily basis and he will be going to the vet for a recheck next week. We still have no idea what the total cost will end up being. Simon will still need at least two more surgeries on his leg in the upcoming weeks. Please continue to spread the word. Every donation helps!
Home from Vet!
Simon is home from the vet and at his foster home. Photos coming soon! Thank you for your continued support. Simon will need ongoing medical care and surgeries in the upcoming weeks. Please continue to spread the word!
Post-Surgery Update!
Simon's surgery is over and everything went well. There were THREE doctors assisting with the surgery. They removed as much of the infected tissue as possible, and also removed one of the pins. Simon currently has an external fixture keeping his leg in place and will be on two different antibiotics and pain medications. The doctors are hopeful that Simon can go back to his foster home tomorrow. We will keep you updated!!
Update 2-9-11
Simon is doing well this morning on the IV antibiotics at Arbor Animal Hospital. His surgery is scheduled for later today. We will keep you posted! Thank you (as always) for your support, donations, and sharing of Simon's story!
Help Still Needed! - UPDATE
Simon went to the vet today and his infection is not getting better. There are three different bacteria growing in his leg and he is at Arbor Animal Hospital getting IV antibiotics. The initial surgery that was done to repair his leg must be redone so the infection can be cleaned from the muscle and tissues. An external apparatus will be needed to keep his leg in place. At this point Simon's leg cannot be amputated because of the risk of infection spreading. Simon's surgery is tentatively scheduled for Thursday. This is going to be VERY expensive. If you or anyone you know would like to make a donation in any amount, it would be very much appreciated! Thank you. >^..^<
Update on Simon!!
First, we apologize for creating a new ChipIn page. The first one ended, and we were unable to reactivate it.

Simon's leg is healing, but at a recent check-up it was discovered that Simon has a serious bacterial infection under his splint/bandage. The preliminary tests taken today show that the infection is Staph and E-Coli. Simon is now on a heavy dose of medication that will hopefully kill the bacteria and not allow the infection to settle into the bone.

A conservative estimate at this time for Simon's continued care is $2,000. We raised $190 from our initial ChipIn, and have deducted that amount.

Please help us raise $1,810 to help Simon!!

Donations can also be made directly to Arbor Animal Hospital, where Simon is now being treated. Please be sure to let the staff know that you are donating for Simon/OCARC:

ORIGINAL POSTING 1/17/12:

Meet Simon. Simon is an approximately 7-month-old neutered male, long-haired orange tabby. Corona Animal Shelter contacted our organization about rescuing this boy and taking care of the medical expenses to get him all fixed up! We cannot be sure how he broke his leg, but he was most likely hit by a car. Poor boy!

We made arrangements with the Animal Medical Center of Corona to have Simon's leg repaired. The total cost of Simon's surgery is $800. Simon is on his way to recovery, and we will be certain to find him a loving, forever home that will keep him safe!
